Újpest-városkapu — overview
Commuter trains to Esztergom rumble just one level above this station, which sits right beneath Újpest railway stop on the boundary of Districts IV and XIII, between Gyöngyösi utca and Újpest-központ. It opened on 14 December 1990 as part of the final northern extension of M3.
Built by cut-and-cover, it lies only 3.61 m below the street, with two side platforms and exits at both ends leading straight up to the surface: the Gyöngyösi utca end towards Váci út and the rail stop, the Újpest-központ end to the bus station on Temesvári utca. During the 2017–2019 overhaul there was a plan to rename it Újpest vasútállomás (Újpest Railway Station) to help people find the train, but it was dropped; only the capitalisation changed, from Újpest-Városkapu to Újpest-városkapu.

This is a transfer point rather than a destination. Metro, suburban trains on the Esztergom line and the bus station on Temesvári utca meet here, and many regional buses for the northern suburbs start from it. A park-and-ride lot sits above the station, so drivers from outside the city often leave the car here. The surroundings are the south-western corner of Újpest and northern Angyalföld.

It has been in service since December 1990, part of the last section of M3 to reach Újpest. The name Újpest vasútállomás, after the rail stop above it, was proposed during the 2017–2019 reconstruction but rejected; the only change was writing városkapu in lower case.
