Lehel tér — overview
From 1981 to 1990 this station was called Élmunkás tér, after the square's communist-era name. It opened on 30 December 1981 with the first northbound section of M3 from Deák Ferenc tér and was the end of the line until 1984; during the 2017–2019 rebuild of the northern section it became the temporary terminus once more.
Located between Nyugati pályaudvar and Dózsa György út, it is a shallow station 9.3 m below ground with an island platform and plain stairs, no escalators, up to the underpass. A crossover at the Dózsa György út end lets trains switch between both tracks. It was closed for its own renovation from 14 May 2022 to 22 May 2023.

Lehel tér sits where Újlipótváros meets Angyalföld at the southern tip of District XIII. Right next to the station is the Lehel market hall, the neighbourhood’s big covered market, and the Church of St Margaret stands on the square. People come for the market and the residential streets around it, and tram 14 stops here too.
