Is the metro running now
The panel below shows the live state of each line: we read it from BKK's GTFS-Realtime feed through our own API key, and take service disruptions from there too. If the feed is unavailable we would rather print nothing than invent a status.
Timeline of changes
The M1 renovation and extension — not started
BKK has moved the renovation of the Millennium Underground into its preparation phase: full step-free access, an extension towards Rákosrendező and a possible new stop at Hungária körút. The procurement is conditional, because the funding is not yet in place; the tender is planned for September 2026 to January 2027. What it means for you: nothing yet — the M1 runs normally and no closure has been announced. None of it appears on our map or in the route planner, because none of it is running.

Last day the old 450 HUF paper tickets could be validated
Paper single tickets bought at the old price up to 31 May 2025 stayed valid for one year. That grace period is over. What it means for you: old paper tickets left in a drawer are no longer valid; mobile and time-based tickets stay valid for a year from purchase.

Single-ride tickets went up — the monthly pass did not
The single ticket rose from 450 to 500 HUF, the ticket bought from the driver from 600 to 700, the book of ten from 4,000 to 4,500, the 30-minute ticket from 530 to 600, the 90-minute from 750 to 850, and the Budapest 24-hour ticket from 2,500 to 2,750. The monthly Budapest pass stayed at 8,950 HUF, as did the county and national passes. What it means for you: more than about 21 journeys a month and the pass wins; for a visitor, the 72-hour ticket usually does.

The five-and-a-half-year M3 reconstruction ended
Nagyvárad tér and Lehel tér reopened, closing the rebuild that began on 6 November 2017. Trains had already been running the full line since 20 March 2023, but without stopping at those two stations. What it means for you: the M3 serves all twenty stations and there are no replacement buses — older guides often still say otherwise.

Árpád híd became Göncz Árpád városközpont
The city assembly renamed the M3 station after Árpád Göncz, whose statue has stood at the Pest bridgehead since 2016. Earlier, in 2019, Klinikák became Semmelweis Klinikák. What it means for you: older maps and apps may still show the old names — they are the same stations.

Why other sites give different numbers
Search for the Budapest metro and every site says something different. Here is why — and which version we use.
- «04:30–23:10» versus «4:21–0:18». The 04:30–23:10 figure is a rounded guess that has been copied for years. BKK's own timetable has the earliest departure at 4:21 (M3, Újpest-központ) and the last train arriving at 0:18 — the M2, M3 and M4 run past midnight.
- «450 HUF» versus «500 HUF». The single ticket went up on 1 June 2025. Sites that have not been updated since still show the old price.
- «Transfer ticket» and «weekly pass». BKK sells neither. For transfers you buy the 30-minute (600 HUF) or 90-minute (850 HUF) ticket; instead of a weekly pass there is the 72-hour ticket or the monthly one.
- «48 stations» versus «52». There are 48. You get 52 by counting the interchanges more than once: Deák Ferenc tér sits on three lines, Keleti pályaudvar and Kálvin tér on two.
- «Every 2–3 minutes at peak». It depends on the line: 2–3 on the M1, 3–4 on the M2, M3 and M4. Late in the evening it is 5–10.
