Nyugati pályaudvar — overview
Some 25.76 m below Nyugati tér, this is one of the deep stations of the Blue Line: a five-tunnel layout with an island platform and two exits up to the underpass. It sits beneath Váci út where it meets the Grand Boulevard (Nagykörút), between Arany János utca and Lehel tér, on the border of Districts V, VI and XIII.
It opened on 30 December 1981, when M3 was extended north from Deák Ferenc tér, and was called Marx tér until 1992. The station was rebuilt in 2020–2023 as part of the middle-section works and reopened in March 2023. It is one of the busiest stops on the line, linking the metro with trams 4 and 6 on the Grand Boulevard and with Nyugati railway station next door.

Nyugati tér is one of the busiest crossroads in the city. Above the station stands Nyugati railway station, Budapest’s Western Station, with trains towards Vác and the northern suburbs; trams 4 and 6 run along the Grand Boulevard and across Margaret Bridge to Buda; and the WestEnd shopping centre is right alongside. Commuters, travellers and shoppers all pass through.
