Kelenföld vasútállomás ↔ Keleti pályaudvar
The M4 (Green) is Budapest’s newest metro line and its only driverless, automated one — it opened in 2014. It runs from Kelenföld vasútállomás to Keleti pályaudvar and has modern, step-free stations. Platform screen doors protect passengers at every station.
The first plans for a fourth line date from 1972, but work was shelved in 1978 in favour of the M3. Surface works finally began in 2006 and tunnelling in 2007, and after many postponements the first section opened on 28 March 2014. The 7.3 km line links Kelenföld vasútállomás in Buda with Keleti pályaudvar in Pest through ten stations, passing under the Danube.
The M4 is Budapest's only driverless, fully automated metro. It runs Alstom Metropolis trains, and glass walls with platform doors separate the platforms from the track. Its stations were designed by several architecture firms; Fővám tér and Szent Gellért tér – Műegyetem won international architecture awards. Change to the M3 at Kálvin tér and to the M2 at Keleti pályaudvar.
