Népliget — overview
On the drawing board it was Könyves Kálmán körút, after the ring road that crosses Üllői út here; by the time it opened it carried the name of the neighbouring park, Népliget ("People's Park"). The station opened on 29 March 1980, when line M3 was extended south from Nagyvárad tér to Kőbánya-Kispest.
It is a shallow, cut-and-cover station, 7.61 m below ground, with two side platforms and its exit at the Nagyvárad tér end. The tracks drop gently towards Nagyvárad tér at a gradient of 5 per mille. Closed for the reconstruction of the southern section from 6 April 2019, it reopened on 22 October 2020.

Nearby attractions and places
Népliget is where many visitors first arrive in Budapest: the coach station beside the metro handles domestic and international routes. Ferencváros football club’s stadium, the Groupama Aréna, is right here too, so on match days the platforms fill with green-and-white fans. The rest of the time you will share the trains with travellers wheeling suitcases, people changing to the trams, and walkers heading for the park.
