The Budapest metro has four lines and 48 stations. You can change between metro lines at three stations: Deák Ferenc tér (M1, M2, M3), Kálvin tér (M3, M4) and Keleti pályaudvar (M2, M4). At Deák Ferenc tér the lines are not on one level: the M1 runs just below the street while the M2 and M3 platforms are much deeper, so allow a few minutes on foot for the change.
Two lines cross under the Danube to Buda. The M2 runs via Batthyány tér and Széll Kálmán tér to Déli pályaudvar, and the M4 continues from Fővám tér to Szent Gellért tér – Műegyetem, Móricz Zsigmond körtér and Újbuda-központ before ending at Kelenföld. The M1 and M3 stay on the Pest side. Suburban HÉV trains connect with the metro too: the Szentendre line (H5) starts at Batthyány tér, and the Gödöllő (H8) and Csömör (H9) lines at Örs vezér tere.
The first train leaves at 4:21 and the last one reaches its terminus at 0:18; night buses take over after that. Every station on the M3 and M4 is step-free with lifts; none on the M1 is, and on the M2 only the eastern end (Puskás Ferenc Stadion, Pillangó utca, Örs vezér tere). These figures come from BKK's official timetable data.
