Rákóczi tér — overview
In District VIII, Józsefváros, the station sits under Rákóczi tér, a square named after Prince Francis II Rákóczi and anchored by its market hall. It was the fourth M4 station to be approved, on 5 December 2013, and opened on 28 March 2014. The project also added an underground car park for the market hall.
The platform is 22 m below the street. Escalators first drop you onto an intermediate landing, from where a second set turns back down to the platform; two lifts run alongside. The interior is themed in red, white and green, the colours of the Hungarian flag, and the walls list the names of the estates Rákóczi once owned.

The square opens onto the Nagykörút, the Grand Boulevard, where trams 4 and 6 run day and night, so plenty of riders change here. The market hall is where locals shop for produce, and the surrounding streets of Józsefváros mix old tenement blocks with cafés and small shops. It is a practical stop for the boulevard and the inner districts of Pest.
