Déli pályaudvar — overview
The red line's western end sits on the Buda side, beside the Vérmező park and the big Déli (Southern) railway terminus. Trains arrive here from Széll Kálmán tér and turn back at a deep-level station built around a single island platform between two tracks; three escalators climb from the platform to a pedestrian underpass.
Déli pályaudvar opened on 22 December 1972 with the line's second section from Deák Ferenc tér. Work had begun in 1950 but stopped between 1954 and 1962, and during that pause, after the 1956 revolution was crushed, the KGB rounded up hundreds of young people over 14 at this site and deported them in sealed wagons to Uzhhorod. The station was refurbished in 2006.

Nearby attractions and places
Most people use this stop to change to or from main-line trains: Déli is where many services toward Lake Balaton depart, so expect travellers with luggage in summer. Next door is the Vérmező, a wide park, with the quiet streets of Krisztinaváros behind it. Trams 17, 56, 59 and 61 stop outside and fan out towards Hűvösvölgy, Óbuda and southern Buda.

It opened on 22 December 1972, when M2 was extended from Deák Ferenc tér under the Danube to Buda. From 1970 until then the line ran only in Pest, between Fehér út (today Örs vezér tere) and Deák tér. Linking the two big railway stations, Keleti and Déli, had been the aim of the line from its earliest plans.
M2: Towards Örs vezér tere the first is 4:33 and the last 23:53. Towards Déli pályaudvar the first is 4:46 and the last 0:06. At peak times trains run every 3–4 minutes.
