St Stephen’s Basilica (Szent István-bazilika) is the largest church in Budapest, a vast neoclassical cathedral completed in 1905 and dedicated to the first king of Hungary, whose mummified right hand — the Holy Right — is kept inside as a relic. Its 96-metre dome, exactly the height of the Parliament’s, can be climbed by lift or stairs for one of the best panoramas of the city. The basilica stands on Szent István tér in Lipótváros, a few minutes’ walk from three different metro stations.
