Heroes’ Square (Hősök tere) is the grand ceremonial square that closes Andrássy Avenue, dominated by the Millennium Monument — a 36-metre column topped by the Archangel Gabriel and flanked by colonnades bearing statues of Hungary’s founding chieftains and kings. The Museum of Fine Arts and the Kunsthalle face each other across the square, and directly behind it opens City Park (Városliget), home to Vajdahunyad Castle, the Széchenyi Baths and the Zoo. The historic M1 (yellow) line stops right beneath the square.
