The Gellért Baths (Gellért fürdő) are Budapest’s most beautiful thermal baths — an Art Nouveau palace of 1918 attached to the historic Hotel Gellért, famous for its columned indoor pool, glazed Zsolnay tiling and summer outdoor terraces. They sit at the foot of Gellért Hill (Gellért-hegy), the rocky bluff crowned by the Citadella and the Liberty Statue, which offers a sweeping view over the whole city and the Danube bridges. The M4 (green) line’s Szent Gellért tér station opens directly beside the baths.

Szent Gellért tér is a modern M4 station with lifts from street to platform — it is step-free. The climb up Gellért Hill itself, however, is steep and stepped.

To climb Gellért Hill to the Citadella and the Liberty Statue, allow about 25 minutes uphill on foot from the square — the view over the Danube and the bridges is the finest in Budapest.
