Overview
The Great Market Hall is Budapest's largest and oldest covered market, dating from 1897, with a distinctive Zsolnay-tiled roof. The ground floor is full of fresh vegetables, fruit, meat and paprika, while the upper level offers folk crafts and food stalls. The hall stands at the Pest bridgehead beside Liberty Bridge.

How to get there
Take the M4 (green) line to Fővám tér — the market's main entrance is virtually at the station exit, about a 1-minute walk. Fővám tér is one stop from Kálvin tér on the M4 (interchange with the M3), so it is easy to reach from the city centre.
Good to know
💡 The market is open Monday to Saturday and closed on Sundays; the choice is freshest in the morning. Try lángos and goulash at the food stalls upstairs. Walking across Liberty Bridge takes you in a few minutes to the Buda side, near the Gellért Baths and Gellért Hill.
